17 Old Photos Of Joyful Winter Memories

When winter came calling, staying inside all day wasn’t an option. Only in a blizzard would our moms have allowed us to stay cooped up. And we certainly didn’t have all the fancy devices today that keep people indoors for long stretches of time. Skating and sledding were essential winter time activities. Adults and children both joyfully slid and bumped their way across lakes and down hills. The cold weather was no excuse to stay inside all day!

Building snowmen was a favorite, too!

Now sledding was one thing that didn’t require as much grace, but it did require skill. Leaning, steering, and knowing when to jump off have always been fundamental. Who else remembers the troublemakers in the neighborhood who always managed to cause a tumble regardless of who was steering or how small the hill was? Crunching through the snow after a crash landing was fun though, just as long as the sled didn’t land on top of you!

We had to be bundled up nice and snug (two pairs of socks), but it was worth it. There’s nothing quite like a sunny winter day and plenty of snow. And if we got cold the adults would tell us that the fresh air was good for us. Those were the days! What are some of your favorite winter memories? Let us know in the comments below.
