By now, most of us have heard of (if not purchased) the Elf on the Shelf. It started back in 2004 as a children’s book, written in rhyme, by Carol Aebersold and daughter Chanda Bell and illustrated by Coë Steinwart. It tells the story of elves that are sent by Santa to let hime know who should be on the Naughty or Nice list. Of course, there was the subsequent doll that came along as a companion to the book with the “warning” that the elf would move about during the night to check on the kids, so don’t be surprised if it is in a different spot every morning! Now, leave it up to imaginative grown-ups to run with that idea and have it evolve into a full-blown “spy program.” I like what this dad did with their Elf, Elwood. He strapped a camera to it so he could show the kids what Elwood might be up to at night. The result is – illuminating!
